Arabic world report2

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

So it is nearly one month since I have left Austria to stay in Marocco for a while. Lots of things happened. I improved my surfing skills, learned some words Arabic found a job as MTB guide, which is a big adventure for me. I am working with Pierre Allain, the boss of the company and Hassan another guide who is super fit and is working well.

Ahmed and I went to Marrakech to meet Pierre Allain and we did also a day trip tour. It was not that difficult but nice to see the mountains and spent I day with Ahmed in my world, the world of biking, which he doesn’t know at all.

I in Marrakech

After that I stayed in Marrakech and Ahmed went back to his work in Agadir. But it didn’t turned out well for me. On my first working day I got really ill and couldn’t continue to ride had to take a break for 3 days. The 4th day was better and I felt good but in the evening the cold got me back and I think I had high fiver in the night. So I stopped again and went home to Agadir to take a real rest without taking one pill after the other. Now I am in Agadir.
Apart from my illness, the Atlas Mountains are great. Just massive and empty. I met nice and sportive people from Canada, England and the USA, get to know Pierre Allain and Hassan better. Slept in very nice hotels and rode awesome trails and downhills
Another folk is living up there, called Berbers. I don’t know if spell them right. But it is so unreal. They are so far behind with everything.

The kids are following us with the hope we have some presents for them and a Mandarin is turning to a birthday present or a miracle. Everything you can see are open hands and hear the words Madame Madame… They are begging so bad. It hurts me to see them like this, with dirty clothes, dirty faces and no future at all. I can’t understand their mothers or fathers how irresponsible they are. Maybe they are happy like this and I just can’t understand it.

Most my friends already know that I am in Morocco now for a while to stay with my boyfriend and to train. I have already found some nice trails just behind Ahmeds’ house. I can push or ride up between the houses and then ride down again. Its of course very dusty and lots of lose rocks are flying around when I go faster. My bike works so well. I hardly ever ride with short travel bikes so I am even more surprised how well it goes. I have built it up like a 4 cross bike but just with 3 chain rings and it has more suspension in the back. In the front I run a minute with 10cm. So that’s all I need here.
It suggests itself with a surf teacher as a boyfriend that I surf nearly every day. I wouldn’t say I am that ambitious with doing it fast perfectly. I am quite happy that I can take it easy and not surf “against the time” or have to train for a surf contest. Today we are going to buy some metal pipes. Ahmed is going to weld me a start gate so that I can train the 4 cross starts and a friend of mine lent me his Freelap watch and transmitter sticks. With this freelap system I can stop times between Point A and B. So very good - I can do training laps.
Next week I am going to Marrakech to meet Pierre Allain from a Moroccan Bike organisation. I will probably work for him as a bike guide. I am looking forward to do this.

So these are my news. Bye Bye LENE

Fasten seat belt….

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

The last weeks I was very busy. After Schladming I tried to finish my flat, which I didn’t manage at all. I had some problems with the workers who helped me and so I was very stressed out but I think it’s normal when you work on that kind of project which is a new terrain for me. Anyway. What happened? My brother got robbed, not very dramatically, we could catch the thief and we called the police. Then my Pc got a virus and broke down. I had to rebuilt my Laptop. Then my cars’ engineer burned. Flames….. During I was driving- not very funny… My friend Miriam hurt her knee very bad and it has to get operated. Yes and I am tired now…..
I will fly tomorrow to my boyfriend to Maroco and I had to pack everything for this trip too. I take one bike with me. The morewood Shova. It’s a xc freeride bike. I have 3 chain rings in front…I will see how it will go to ride uphill….. I will do some MTB Guiding in the Atlas Mountains I have already a job offer. So I am excited to go there and more to see my boyfriend after nearly 5 month.
Bye Bye LENE
